A collection of photos documentary style shot for Al Reef Farm, a 30+ year old farm about 1,5 hours from Riyadh, famous for its Khalas dates. I spent a day documenting their harvesting process, from tree to boxes, portraying the people who care for the palms and the land, the landscapes shaped by three decades of work, and the irrigation systems that keep this land alive. The farm is set in the heart of the desert, but the farms fertility comes from groundwater drawn deep beneath the sand. Besides dates, they also harvest wheat and various crops, from leafy greens to vegetables, with the wheat helping to feed their camels and other farm animals. A reminder of how life continues to thrive even in the most arid places.
